An Improved Appliance for Sowing Mangold, Turnip, Rape, and like Seeds.

Seeds, sowing.-An appliance for use with drills or like implements consists essentially of a disc rotating within a shell and provided with projecting studs on one side, to discharge rape and like seeds into the delivery tube of the implement, and with a perforated lateral flange and seed ejector on the other to discharge turnip seeds. Both sides are fitted with studs in combined mangold and rape seed sowers. Fig. 6 is a sectional view of the appliance, which is secured beneath the seed hopper of the implement by means of ears 2, 3. The disc 4 is rotated by means of a spindle passing through a hole in the boss 7, which takes its bearing in the end of the cylindrical shell 1 and in a cap held on by spring hooks 34. The hopper 37 is divided into a rape chamber and a turnip chamber, one of which is closed by a cover adapted to slide along its pivot. The pivoted shutter 30 communicates with both, and is opened by means of the handle 31, which is normally held in place by a spring. The holes 10 in the flange 5 hold one turnip seed each, and bevelled channels lead to them to facilitate the removal of superfluous seeds by means of an adjustable brush 19. The cap of the shell is provided with a flange 18, which prevents the seeds from leaving the holes 10 until they reach the discharge orifice 13. A wheel 24 is mounted on a stud carried by the loose shackle 22, and is provided with projections to force the seeds from the holes 10, the pitch of the projections corresponding to that of the holes. A projection 26 fits into recesses in the shell 1 and its cap, and prevents rotation of both the shackle and the cap. Rape seed is discharged through an orifice in the opposite side of the shell by means of the studs 6.
