An Improved Appliance for the Carriage of a Rifle, Shot Gun or Carbine when Mounted or Dismounted

Equipments and accoutrements.-A device for carrying a rifle, carbine, &c. when the user is mounted or dismounted comprises, for mounted use, (1 ) a leather, steel, or other loop a attached to a slide b, which is free to move on the belt c, and is attached to the ends of the shoulder strap h ; (2) a strap d attached to the slide b and terminating in a hook or clip e ; and (3) a steel or other spring clip i, which is suspended from the saddle. In use, the barrel of the rifle is thrust through the loop a, the hook e is engaged with the trigger guard, and the small of the butt of the weapon is thrust into the spring clip i on the saddle. When the user is on foot, only the loop a and the hook e are employed.
