Rails. - A compound rail for tramways or street railways, of which the tread portion may be easily renewed, c o m prises two angle-irons s B, C fastened together by rivets E, bosses or washers D keeping them the right distance apart. When placed in position, the flanges rest on packings (not shown) laid on the concrete bed A, so that slurry or liquid cement may be run in between the angle-bars and under the flanges and allowed to set level with the upper surface of the bosses D. The rail cap F has a web H the whole length of the rail, and of such depth that it may rest on the bosses D and cement K. It is secured by bolts J, and recesses I in the under surface help to keep the bars B, C together.
