Drain and sewer pipe joints.-In a joint suitable for drain, sewer or other earthenware or metal pipes, or for conduits for electric conductors, the upper portions of the socket a and spigot b are cut away as shown, the sides a1 of the socket extending vertically. When the pipes are assembled, the flange b1 on the spigot comes against the inside of the flange a3 on the socket on which the spigot rests, thus preventing longitudinal displacement. Cement, pitch, lead, or other jointing-material may be introduced between the spigot b and socket walls a', surplus material being removed from the inside of the joint through the inspection opening b3, which is then closed by a cover-piece d. The piece d is covered with jointing-material laid even with the flanges a2, b1.
