19,378. Whittaker, A. Aug. 29. Sanding rails.- In sanding-apparatus for use with tramcars, the sand is controlled by a valve pivoted outside the hopper. The hopper a, Fig. 1, is holted on to a valve box b of the shape shown. The outlet b2 of this valve box is formed with the tube b3, which has a screwed nozzle for taking the delivery tube b5, Fig. 4. The outlet b2 is controlled from the outside by the valve c carried by an arm c3 fulcrumed to a bearing a3 forming part of the valve box. A spring d keeps the valve in its closed position, and it is opened by means of the foot press j, acting through links i, h, g, e or other suitable mechanism. The hopper may be provided with a baffle-plate.
