1552. Towner, A. D. Jan. 22. Reversing-gearing.-In mechanism for winding and rewinding the tune-sheets of automatic musical instruments, the transmission shaft is not moved in a longitudinal direction when changing from the winding to the rewinding position or vice versa, and the chain-wheels are in alinement under all conditions. When the pneumatic 23 is exhausted by operating the rewinding stop, it actuates the lever 17 through the links 21, 22 thereby sliding a spurwheel 7 along a key on the transmission shaft 6 and moving it out of mesh with a wheel 8. A lever 16 is actuated simultaneously by similar means to cause a clutch member 15 to slide along a key on the shaft 6 and engage a clutch member attached to a wheel 10, which is loose on the shaft 6, so that the roller 2 is driven by a chain 9 and wheels 10, 11 to rewind the tune-sheet. A spring 28 is provided to return the parts to their original position, and an arm 13 fitting into a groove on the boss of the wheel 10, prevents this wheel from moving in a longitudinal direction. A bellcrank lever 25 is actuated by the link 24 to remove a brake 26 from a wheel 27, which rotates with the roller 2.
