Screening coal.-An oscillating screening and transmitting tray FT is arranged below the outlet of the standard colliery screen SCS to extract any small coal not separated. by the standard screen, or to sort the large coal into different sizes. The small coal passing through the screen SOS falls into the "billy" weighing-box BB, and, together with the screenings from the tray FT, is treated in a lower oscillating screening and transmitting tray LT provided with adjustable screens S1, S1. The large coal passes by a shoot LCC into a wagon L, and the small and nut coat into wagons S, N, respectively, the cobble coal being delivered on to a stationary tray ST, attendants standing on the platforms P pick out slag &c. before it passes by the adjustable shoot AC into the wagon C. The trays are suspended by rods SR and are actuated by rods ER from eccentrics E. The movements of the trays may be regulated by varying the throw of the eccentrics, or by altering the points of attachment of the rods ER to the suspenders SR.
