Rearing-appliances.-A foster-mother A, with a sliding metal - covered lid a is divided into three chambers by sliding partitions g, l, the hot chamber being made in sectionally-removable portions. The hot chamber has a hinged metal bed g2 with ventilating-apertures g3, g4 and a flue g5' for the escape of the lamp fumes, which are carried away to the atmosphere by a through current from apertures a3 to apertures a4. Air is admitted to the hot chamber round the lamp from an air-space h1 by apertures b1 in the floor B and also from an air-space formed by the removable partition g', the outer wall of the rearer having apertures a7 regulated by a hit-and-miss slide a8. The hot chamber is ventilated by apertures m in the partition g1, and also by apertures k2, k3 in the airchambers k, k1, to which air is admitted by hit-and-miss slides a5, a6. Air-inlets a2 are also provided in one of the cold chambers, and the partition g is provided with a sliding door g6 and window g7. Glass windows are also provided in each chamber, the window f in the hot chamber having a sliding cover f1. The cold chambers are provided with a sliding floor b2, a removable end b3, and a sliding door leading to a run if desired. The false bottom h, the lamp, and the lid g2 are removed when the apparatus is used as a cold brooder.
