[Addition to 1655/13 and 5906/14.] Mechanical telegraphs.-In combination with the non-reciprocating block or carriage provided with sectors which support a weighted roller and the mechanism for releasing the sectors in applying the brake on the winding-drum, as described in the parent Specification 5906/14, a two-speed gear is provided for driving the governor to suit the haulage of either men or minerals, which gear is changed from fast to slow, or vice versa, by the signal wire communicating from the bottom or top of the shaft to the man at the engine. The gear is constructed so that the wheels B, F and C, G remain always in gear, and one or other of the wheels B, C is clutched to the shaft by a clutch H, having lateral projections and operated by the signal wire through the lever I.
