An improved method of and means for adapting furnace fronts for burning liquid fuel

Liquid-fuel furnaces.-In a liquid-fuel furnace in which the furnace front comprises inner and outer walls enclosing a chamber through which air is supplied in regulated quantities to the furnace, the inner wall 1 of the front, Fig. 3, is provided with apertures such as 56 through which air is admitted to an air-heating chamber enclosed between the wall 1 and corrugated plates 11. The heated air passes to the furnace through the Venturi tube 55. Instead of the corrugated plates 11, plates 11a, Fig. 5, provided with projections 11e, 11f may be employed. The outer wall 2 of the furnace front is provided with a cover-plate 21 to which is hinged a plate 30 having observation apertures. A boss 23 on the coverplate supports the burner 28, and an inner boss 26 is perforated to admit air from the hollow front to a chamber leading to the tube 27 surrounding the burner. An adjustable perforated conical deflector 43 is mounted on the end of the tube 27, which also supports an adjustable cone 47 provided with helical vanes 49 and externally with vanes 50. The two sets of vanes may be so arranged that the streams of air passing to the furnace are caused by them to intersect.
