Wheels.-A hand-wheel is built-up of spokes 1 about which is cast a hollow boss 12 of aluminium the outer ends of the spokes being united to a ring 15 of hollow-tubing preferably by welding. When casting the boss a steel mould 3, divided at 4, is mounted on a table 2, and the inner-end of the spokes 1 which have serrations or spiked portions 14, are gripped between grooves in the mould halves, so that the spokes are inclined to the table, by tightening bolts 11. A mandrel, with a taper 9, is fitted in a bush 7 in the mould 3 so that the end 8 projects below the table. Molten aluminium, or the like, is then poured into the mould and forms the boss on solidification. The wheel is covered with celluloid or like material and the mandrel may have a rib on the portion 9 for producing a key-way in the boss.
