185,824. Hodgkinson, E. June 9, 1921. Steam-cutting machines; rolling-machines; feeding.-Comprises improvements in machines for making ridge, hip, and valley tiles, coping-bricks, &c. from clay, asbestos-cement, &c., of the type in which the material is passed between a pair of shaping-rolls X, V, and is severed by a knife 3 arranged over a cutting-table T. The shaft e of the lower roll X is mounted in bearings f adjustable horizontally by screws h to ensure registration of the rolls. To ensure a regular feed of material, the hopper j is fitted with a ram k, reciprocated through a lever p and rod r from an eccentric r3 on the shaft e. As shown in Figs. 5-7 the rolls are divided to accommodate interchangeable shaping-rings 18 which are secured between flanged members 16, 19, the ring 18 fitting over a flange 17 on the member 16 and being held against rotation by projections 21 and recesses 22 ; the ring 18 may be formed integral with flange 19. The cutting-table T is formed in two sections t3, Fig. 11, hinged to a screw t4 and adjustable to suit the shape of the material, by screws t9, being fixed after adjustment by bolts t10. By means of the screw t4 the table is adjustable relatively to the rollers. The rear end of the table is provided with a detachable plate t14, Fig. 10, having a knifeedge t15. The projection 8, Fig. 11, operating the knife 3 through the levers 4, 6 and rod 5, is furnished with an antifriction roller 9. To ensure clean cutting, the table T is furnished with an interchangeable block 14 of hard wood.
