To facilitate the handling of wide or extended - face matrices and type-dies, and to enable them to hang vertically during their passage through the machine, the two pairs of lugs 4, 5 and the distributing-teeth 3 are arranged in alignment with each other in a vertical plane passing through the centre of gravity of the matrix, and the leading side is provided at its lower end with an undercut or recess 6 to permit the matrix to overhang the distributor stop-rails, so that the lifter engages the matrix below its centre of gravity. The following side of the matrix is provided with a chamfer 8 to form a narrow foot in the place of the teeth and lugs. The leading corner 7 of the undercut 6 is preferably chamfered to facilitate the entry of the matrix into the magazine. The weight of the matrix may be reduced by means of grooves 10.
