224,826. Lumbeck, E., and Stock & Co. June 14, 1924. Eyelets; setting; lacing-hooks.-The ends of the shanks of eyelets, lacing-hooks, tubular rivets, and like barrelled fasteners are doubled back, as shown in Figs. 5, 13, and 17, immediately prior to setting or during manufacture to prevent splitting during the flanging or setting operation. Eyelet &c. blanks b, Fig. 2, formed by stamping from a sheet of iron, brass, or aluminium, have their ends set up in dies to form bulges h, which, after the bottoms d have been drilled out and the individual eyelets &c. have been removed from the sheet by stamping, are rolled or flanged to the form shown in Fig. 5, when in situ in the workpiece ready for the final setting operation. In a modified form, Fig. 10, the bottoms are drilled out before the eyelets are removed from the sheet, and the flanges o formed by the drilling operation are rolled or flanged back, as shown in Fig. 13, preparatory to the final setting operation. Fig. 16 shows a die for the, final setting of the fasteners in which the edge, q is slightly turned back.
