Exhibiting moving pictures; coin action, electric-connection; coin-discharging mechanism.- In a starting device for apparatus of the kind in which the insertion of a coin closes an electric circuit for moving a band such as a kinematograph film, a coin 6, Fig. 3, inserted in a shoot makes contact with two conducting rods 4, 5 spaced apart a distance equal to the diameter of the coin, and completes the circuit of an electric motor 9, Fig. 1, which drives a film 10. The coin is retained by a sliding rod 12 passing through the conductor 4 and having a projection 13 at one end to bear against the edge of the 'film which is provided on that edge with a notch 19. The film is moved in the direction of the arrow f until the notch 19 comes opposite the rod 12 which is then pressed into the notch by a spring 16 acting against a pin 14 on the rod, thereby allowing the coin to drop and break the motor circuit. The film comes to rest with the notch 19 just past the rod 12, as shown in Fig. 3, ready for the insertion of another coin.
