Radiators, motor-car and like. - A louvered shutter for controlling the flow of air to motorcar and like radiators, and of the type comprising a number of pivoted slats B simultaneously operable by a sliding bar D, has its slats mounted in a frame A which is formed of the same shape and size as the exposed radiator core between the upper and lower tanks. The frame is secured directly to the radiator core by means of bolts passing through holes A2 in lugs A1 at the rear of the frama and through or between the radiator tubes. The frame is also provided with an upper or lower sheet metal portion A5 spaced from the rear of the frame. The slats B are provided, at their rear with tubular parts B4 containing spring-pressed pivot pins C adapted to fit in holes in the sides of the frame A and to be operable for withdrawal by knobs C3. The channel bar D, slidably mounted by a pin-and-slot connection in a channelled strip A3 forming part of the frame A, is operated by Bowden wire mechanism E, E1 and is provided with slots D3 in which engage pins B3 fixed in lugs B5 at the rear of the slats. In order to prevent rattle, a coil spring F is associated with each slat, each spring F being in tension and having one end secured to a pin B3 and the other end to a pin F' fixed to the bar D. In cases in which a fixed bar, such as a tie rod for lamp bracket is provided in front of the radiator, the slat or slats adjacent the bar may be fixed in the closed position. For commercial vehicles ihe slats may have advertising matter painted thereon.
