Carbohydrate ethers.-Difficultly soluble or insoluble carbohydrate ethers are converted into ethers which are relatively soluble by treating with a depolymerizing or degrading agent such as hydrochloric, sulphuric, phosphoric or oxalic acid, or a mixture of zinc chloride and hydrochloric acid. A compound having a swelling or solvent action on the ether may also be added.
