Pneumatic separating; separating by shaking- apparatus.-Apparatus for treating the fine residue from a coal washing plant so as to separate out the coal comprises a perforated table 1 on to which the materials are fed from a hopper 18 and which is irregularly reciprocated while air is supplied from below. The table is stepped in the direction of movement and is provided with longitudinal bars 4 converging to a central channel 11 in which the dirt is collected, the clean coal being collected at the sides of the table. Deflectors 7 are pivoted at the delivery end of each section to control the amount of dirt passing to the next. The outer sides of the table are made adjustable, and the admission of air to each section may be independently controlled. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the air is used to dry the material under treatment. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
