334,004. Lierg, F. July 2, 1929. Colour photography.-In a process for the production of photographic images, especially on kinematograph films, in natural colours, two or more silver halide emulsions of different colour sensitivity are superimposed with or without an intermediate layer of gelatin, one or more of the layers containing chemical agents which enable the silver images to be converted into coloured images independently. The intermediate layer may also contain substances which enable the layers to be treated separately. In an example with two layers, copper carbonate is added to one and ferric hydroxide or manganese carbonate to the other. After developing and fixing, the silver images are treated with potassium ferrocvanide, and then dipped in hydrochloric acid, copper ferrocyanide being formed in one layer and prussian blue or manganese ferrocyanide in the other. The copper ferrocyanide is treated with a thiocyanate. solution giving a red image, and when manganese ferrocyanide has been formed, a malachite green image is produced by treatment with alkali and a solution of leucomalachite green. The carbonate may be added to one layer only, the silver ferrocyanide in the other layer being converted into a mordant. e.g. silver iodide. The intermediate layer may contain a precipitant for the reagent used in treating one layer, e.g. barium carbonate when a toning bath containing iron salts is used, or may be dyed, e.g. with carmine, so that the gelatin of one layer after treatment with a bichromate may be hardened by light action, the gelatin of the other layer being unaffected.
