[Class 35.] Motor for driving looms &c. is connected to the driven shaft through gearing comprising a clutch which is only put in after the motor has got up speed, this being effected by a cam operated by the motor casing, which is free to rotate to a certain extent. The motor is mounted on a fixed shaft 1 to which is keyed a clutch cone 19. The rotor 16 is mounted on a sleeve 14 which carries planet pinions 32, 31 engaging with pinions 30, 29 on the driven shaft 6 and the hollow member 27 of the clutch respectively. Between the sleeve 14 and the shaft 1 is a sleeve 13 integral with the motor casing 7 and carrying cams 26 engaging with cams 25 on a member 20 sliding without rotation on the shaft 1. When the motor is started the member 27 at first rotates freely and the shaft 6 is stationary, but as the casing 7 and sleeve 13 rotate under the torque of the motor against the action of an adjustable counterweight carried on a rod 34 the cams 25, 26 and the slide 20 cause the clutch members to engage, locking the pinion 29 and rotating the shaft 6. The rotation of the casing 7 may be checked by the rod 34 coming in contact with stops.
