402,009. Memorandum &c. appliances. COLBRIDGE, W. M., 6, Welbeck Road, Doncaster. June 21, 1933, No. 17731. [Classes 16, 146 (i), and 146 (iii).] An appliance for use in writing or like purposes comprises a base, and one or more foldable flaps hinged thereto adapted to be brought into a folded position over the base or unfolded to form extensions of the latter, the hinged connection between the base and each flap being such that either one or other of the two faces of the flap can be presented to view when the flap is in a folded or an extended position. The appliance may comprise a main panel 1 and a pair of wooden side panels 2, 3, of half the width of the main panel so that they completely cover the upper face of the main panel when folded thereover. The upper face of the main panel may be provided with sheets 10 of blotting or writing-paper. The two faces of the panel 2 may carry an index 11 for addresses and telephone numbers, and an engagement pad, and the two faces of the panel 3 may carry a memorandum pad 17 and a calendar. The sheets etc. are secured to the panels in a detachable manner by extensible rubber or like fastenings, 14, which are accommodated in pairs of parallel oblique slits 13, 13a in the sides of the panels adjacent the corners. The side panels are connected to the main panel by links 5, 6, joined to each other by pivot pins 7, and to the panels by pivot pins 8, 9. The links 5 are relatively long compared with the links 6, and have the pivot pins 8 situated midway along the ends of the side panels. By raising the side panels slightly, and swinging them and their links 5 about the pins 7, they may be folded over the upper face of the main panel; when they are in an intermediate position they may be given a half turn about the pins 8 so that the opposite faces of the panels are brought into view. In a modified form of hinge one link only is used which is pivoted to a pivot midway of the end of a side panel, and hinged on a pivot pin carried by a plate secured at the corner on the underpart of the main panel.
