[Class 135.] Valves employed in effecting a quick cut-off of a stream of powdered or granular material, for example in valve-bag filling and weighing machines, are of the rotary cylindrical type 3 and are turned by a weight 2 upon operation of a counterbalanced stop-arm 5 by manual or automatic means, for example weighing-means in the machine, The valve plug 3 may fit with comparative freedom in its seating, and its bearing spindle carries the weight 2, which may, however, be secured thereto by one-way means. Also secured to the bearing spindle is a member 11, on a pin 10, in which is pivoted a pawl 9 normally engaged by a roller 8 on the arm 2. On depression of the arm 5, the weight 2 falls and the valve closes, motion being stopped by the member 11 striking an abutment 14; any material which has entered the plug 3 is, by the concussion, shaken into a side conduit 16. The main conduits may be of oval cross-section. It is stated that the valve may be operated by hydraulic, pneumatic, or electrical means.
