[Class 63] In a hat-felting machine of the kind in which the hat bodies are passed between a rotatable drum or wheel and a cradle suspended resiliently within a vessel containing the felting liquor, the cradle 5 is suspended by means of spring members 9 secured thereto and mounted by means of clamping devices 10 on rockable members 11 carried by spring- supported housings. The housings are movable vertically relatively to rotatable screws 14 operated by handles 15 and surrounded by helical springs 13 which abut between the housings and collars 17, the screws 14 engaging correspondingly threaded nuts or the like 18 on the framework of the machine to permit the distance between the periphery of the drum 6 and the cradle 5 to be varied. The spring members 9 may be arranged to slide relatively to the clamping devices 10 to permit the cradle 5 to move away from the drum 6 as the roll of hat bodies passes through, and the action of the springs 9 may be amplified by means of a spring - pressed member 21 which is adapted by means of a projection 20 co-operating with the spring 9 to facilitate the quick return of the cradle to normal position.. A cradle 28, or more than one if desired, is provided to act in conjunction with the drum 6 to return the hat bodies to the operator, the cradle 28 being provided with stop means to prevent engagement thereof with the drum.
