451,450. Spray - producers ; valves. DAVIES, C., South Eastern Agricultural College, Wye, Kent. May 10, 1935, Nos. 13812 and 23151. [Classes 69 (iii) and 135] The lance of a crop or other sprayer is provided with a valve controlled by a rod operated by a stationary grip or handle or by a weight or float so that as the nozzle end of the lance is raised or lowered angularly the rod will be moved to vary the liquid outlet thus giving a spray when the nozzle is directed to the lower part of a tree and a more concentrated jet on the upper part. Fig. 1 shows a lence B provided at one end with a valve A2 attached to a rod A extending through its other end and pivoted at a to a link D. The link D is pivoted at D1 to a bracket C fixed to the lance and is rigidly attached to a handle E held in the operator's hand or attached to a harness. As the lance is inclined the valve A2 is drawn away from the nozzle. Modifications are described in which the pivot D1 can be adjusted on the arm C, in which the rod A is actuated by a quick screw, and in which an eccentric on a spindle attached to the handle engages a strap on the valve rod. When a rotary valve is used to control the outlet the rod may be turned by bevel gearing on a spindle attached to the handle. Fig. 7 shows the rod A operated by a weight k4 as the lance is inclined and in Fig. 8, the rod is operated by a float L2 pivoted at L1 to a bell-crank L attached to the rod A. The valve is also shown for controlling a nozzle at an angle to the lance and for controlling groups of two or more outlets.
