605,884. Work-holders. HANCOCK, W. A. 'Sept. 11, 1945, No. 23386. [Class 83 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIII] In a work-holder of the sine bar type, having a work-table angularly adjustable by a worm on a shaft mounted in the base-plate and engaging a worm-wheel keyed to the worktable hinge, the work-table is recessed along its front and rear edges to receive an abutment rod and a bearing rod forming the hinge. A work-table g carries an abutment rod l in a recess along one edge and, in a recess along the other edge, a spindle rod k pivoted on bearing brackets c on a base-plate a having slots f for bolting it to a machine table; side play in the bearings may be taken up by thrust washers held by bolts screwing in the ends of the spindle h. The bearing brackets are held by bolts o in grooves b and are split at cSP1/SP so that the spindle can be clamped in the adjusted position by bolts n. A worm-wheel k is keyed to the spindle and engages a worm dSP1/SP on a shaft d centrally disposed in the base-plate. The shaft has a flange dSP2/SP at one end and, keyed to it at the other end, a threaded collar p which carries a clamping ring q and nut r and has keyed to it a knurled knob s secured by a bolt t. For supporting the work-table at angles near the perpendicular, when adjusted with the aid of sine tables or by indicating means that may be provided to show the position of the worm shaft d or spindle h, one or two sets of overlapping slotted links v, vl, Fig. 6, may be provided, pivoted on pins x and w screwed into the abutment rod and base-plate respectively and clamped by nuts xSP1/SP, wSP1/SP. The links are connected by a block y sliding in the slot of link vSP1/SP and having a pin ySP1/SP carrying a clamping nut z.
