An improved composition for the whitening of articles of canvas, white leather or white deerskin

A whitening composition for articles of canvas, white leather or white deerskin comprises a mixture of titanium oxide and an aqueous paste including soap and lactic casein. Glycerine, wax and aromatic essences such as essence of mirbane and essence of rosemary may also be present in the aqueous paste. The composition may be manufactured by dissolving soap in water, bringing to the boil, cooling to about 45 DEG C., adding lactic casein, stirring, adding essence of mirbane, diluting to a thick paste, separately dissolving about a quarter of the previous amount of soap in water, boiling, adding wax, boiling, adding glycerine, boiling, adding essence of rosemary, diluting, stirring to a thick cream, mixing the two separately prepared compositions, stirring titanium oxide into the mixture in proportion by weight of 40 to 25 per cent titanium oxide to 60 to 75 per cent of the mixture, and diluting with water to the desired consistency.
