[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Feb. 7, 1947.] [Class 37] In apparatus for determining moisture content of particulate hygroscopic materials by measuring their electric resistance, a sample P in a tubular insulating measuring cell 3 is enclosed between plunger electrodes 1, 2 connected in a resistance measuring circuit S. Before measurement, a critical pressure is applied to the sample by a hand wheel operated screw 5, acting on the upper electrode, while the lower is supported on a bellows F containing hydraulic oil, the pressure on the sample being indicated by gauge 8. The temperature of the sample is stabilized by thermostatic control of an electric circuit S1, heating the oil and the electrodes and the sample. Moisture content is indicated by its resistance value.
