Process for the production of benzene hexachloride and the benzene hexachloride so produced

Benzene hexachloride is prepared by reaction of benzene with chlorine in presence of actinic light in a continuous process in which a solution of chlorine in benzene is passed through the reaction zone at a liquid hourly space velocity of at least 3, e.g. between 4 and 7. Preferably the temperature is kept between 0 DEG and 40 DEG C., and a molar ratio of benzene to chlorine of 4-12 : 1 used. In the examples (five) various modifications of the above process are given.
