摘要
A polyvinyl chloride emulsion is prepared by adding titania and phenyl mercury 8-hydroxquinolinate dissolved in propylene glycol to an aqueous emulsion of low viscosity polyvinyl chloride which has been obtained by emulsifying with polyvinyl acetate partially saponified with sulphuric acid.ALSO:Phenylmercury 8-hydroxyquinolates of the general formula FORM:0736399/IV (b)/1 wherein X and Y are hydrogen or halogen atoms, are prepared by mixing phenylmercury hydroxide, or a salt thereof with an organic carboxylic acid, with an 8-hydroxyquinoline of the general formula FORM:0736399/IV (b)/2 wherein X and Y have the above significance, in a solvent in which the reactants are at least sparingly soluble, or by grinding the reactants together. The salts may be derived from a monocarboxylic acid, e.g. a saturated monocarboxylic acid, e.g. phenylmercury acetate and propionate. Suitable reaction solvents are water, lower monohydric alcohols such as ethanol, isopropanol and butanol, and lower saturated monocarboxylic acids such as acetic acid. In the examples phenylmercury 8-hydroxyquinolinate, 7 - iodo - 5 - chloro - 8-hydroxyquinolinate and 5-bromo-8-hydroxyquinolinate are prepared.ALSO:A paint contains an organo-mercury compound of the general formula: FORM:0736399/III/1 in which X and Y are hydrogen or halogen atoms, e.g. from 0.1 to 5.0 per cent of the mercury compound may be present based on the weight of pigments although higher concentrations may be used. In an example a paint is prepared by mixing dry purple brown, paris white, barytes, boiled oil foots, varnish foots, raw linseed oil and a composition containing stearamide and phenylmercury 8-hydroxy-quinolinate.ALSO:Disinfectant and fungicidal compositions contain an organo-mercury compound of the general formula FORM:0736399/VI/1 wherein X and Y are hydrogen or halogen atoms. The compositions may be in the form of aqueous dispersions e.g. an aqueous dispersion containing an emulsifying agent, or may be in the form of a powder admixed with solid carriers such as clays-preferably kieselguhr and bentonite, chalk and talc. Compositions are prepared by adding phenyl mercury 8-hydroxyquinolinate to a mixture of diacetone alcohol, water and the condensation product of p-tert.-octylphenol and ethylene oxide, and by dissolving or forming a suspension of a melt of phenyl mercury 8-hydroxyquinolinate or phenyl mercury 5-chloro-7-iodo-8-hydroxy-quinolinate with stearamide in an organic solvent, e.g. petroleum ether or white spirit.
