To permit an uninterrupted feed from a conveyer 42 to a train of cars 38 in a mine, a fixed deflector 43, 44 co-operates with a moving deflector 47 so that normally the stream of coal is directed to the forward tub 38 but, by retracting the deflector 47, the stream may be directed into the rearward tub 38 without any coal falling through the gap between the tubs. A gauge member 32, 34 supported above the haulage way trims the coal in the tubs. In the construction illustrated, a switch 53 is closed to cause the tubs to be fed forward when coal behind the gauge 34 builds up on the deflector 44. The moving deflector 47 is carried by a wheeled carriage in guides 45 and is operated by a ram 52; where, however, the conveyer 42 is directed along the haulage way the deflector 47 is preferably withdrawn laterally.
