An arrangement for " setting over" the centre in a lathe tailstock comprises a slidable barrel with an eccentric bore and a key, engaging the outside of the barrel, which is adapted to be moved laterally to produce a small angular movement of the barrel. The tailstock 1, Fig. 1, is adapted to be adjusted and clamped in position along the bed 1. A barrel 3 is slidable longitudinally in a bore in the tailstock, and is provided with a part-cylindrical keyway or groove 6. The latter is engaged by an adjustable-key 7 held in the groove by a screw 8 with a ball-head 9. The key is held transversely between two adjusting-screws 10, 11, which enable the key to be adjusted a small amount about the ball of the screw 8 and thus rotate the barrel through a small angle. The tapered bore, Fig. 3, at the end of the barrel, adapted to take a centre or a drill 22, is arranged eccentrically to the axis of the barrel 3, so that rotation of the barrel in the manner described, adjusts the centre.
