924,312. Removing tyres from presses. McNEIL MACHINE & ENGINEERING CO. Jan. 16, 1962 [March 28, 1961], No. 1538/62. Class 87(2). In a mechanism to remove cured tyres from tyre curing presses a lower sprocket assembly 37 is firmly held by the stanchion 36, stationed between the 2 lower mould halves of a dual-type press, and may be rotated by means of the hydraulic cylinder 38 and connecting rod 59. The lower assembly 37 is connected to a rotatable shaft 73 (fixed in the stanchion) by an adjustable chain 39 and an upper sprocket assembly 72, 40 so that a rotation of the lower sprocket assembly 37 causes a rotation of shaft 73. The tyre conveyer 42 is pivoted on arm 41, which is rigidly attached to the shaft 73, and is kept in contact with a stationary quadriarcuate arm 45, fixed firmly to the stanchion, by a torsion spring 9 and a cam follower 43 (see Fig. 7) so that when the arm 41 rotates the conveyer is constrained to move in the manner indicated by the dotted outlines in Fig. 9, thus coming up under the tyre, lifting it from the press, and tilting it on to a removal conveyer 46 (not shown). The tyre conveyer 42, as shown in Fig. 7, is U-shaped and has in each projecting leg portion a set of tapered rollers 88 fixed to a wing-shaped bracket 87, which contact the underside of the tyre. The projecting leg portions are connected by a cross-member 83, on either side of which are conveyer rollers 84 to facilitate easy removal of the tyres. The roller 88 (a) has a larger diameter than the other rollers thus enabling a larger effective force to be used to free the tyre from the curing bag. The complete motion of the tyre conveyer can be seen from Figs. 1-5 (not shown), in which the conveyer picks up the tyre from the opened mould and tilts it so that it slides by gravity on to the removal conveyer 46 (not shown). The apparatus may be also used with a single type curing press. Specification 652,367 is referred to.
