In an arrangement for magnetizing a hollow article 6 for testing by the magnetic powder method the article is mounted on an arm 1c of a yoke and is magnetized by fields arising from direct current through the arm and from alternating current around the article arising from energization of a coil 2 by a source 3, the article serving as a single closed turn of a transformer. The arm 1c may be withdrawable for the insertion of the article or an end piece 1b or 1d may be pivoted.
