1,046,196. Reaping machines. MASCHINENFABRIK FAHR A.G. March 3, 1964 [March 4, 1963], No. 8990/64. Heading A1F. An attachment, to enable long-stalked row-crops such as maize to be harvested by a reaping machine, comprises a feedwheel 9 rotatable about a substantially, vertical axis so that its periphery forms one side of a feeding channel through which the crop is fed to the cutting mechanism and the feed-wheel is driven by a belt 22 which also acts as a crop-stripper for the feed-wheel. The device is shown attached to the header 2 of a combine 1 having a transverse auger 36 and forwardly-extending side beams 3, 4 to which the attachment is bolted. The attachment comprises two parts, a fixed guide 23 which forms the left-hand wall of the feeding channel and is secured to the beam 4, and a tube-structure 11, 12 which carries the feed-wheel 9 and is provided with an anglebracket 5 bolted to the beam 3. The tubestructure has attached to it plates 15, 15SP1/SP, 15SP11/SP (Fig. 3) which define he feeding channel and protect the belt-transmission 22 from contact with the crop over most of its length. The feed-wheel has 10 and a peripheral V-groove to accommodate the belt 22 which passes around adjustable jockeypulleys 20, 21 and a pulley 19 on the reel shaft 18 of the harvester. In a modification, two feed-wheels of different diameters are mounted co-axially and driven by a belt entraining both of them.
