1,130,740. Nuclear power plant. SIEMENS A.G. 5 July, 1967 [9 July, 1966], No. 31060/67. Heading G6C. In a nuclear reactor power plant, the gas, CO 2 , flows in a closed path through the reactor, compressor and turbine, the latter driving both the compressor and the generator. In order to reduce the space requirements of the compressor, the gas density is raised, by cooling, prior to entry to the compressor. The cooling is effected in the primary of a regenerative heatexchanger followed by a condenser. After compression, the gas flows through the secondary of the exchanger where it is heated and then admitted to the turbine. The gas returns to the reactor from the turbine exhaust. A heavy water moderated reactor or a fast breeder may be used and in the latter case xenon poisoning phenomena do not restrict the speed of plant output regulation. The containment enclosure C surrounds the pressure vessel DK in which the reactor R, heat-exchanger W and condenser K are mounted. The turbine T, compressor V and fuel element decay tank B are disposed between C and DK.
