1,132,187. Creaseproofing linen. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA FABRIK A.G. 19 Oct., 1967 [20 Oct., 1966], No. 47563/67. Heading D1P, Linen textile material is crease proofed by treating it with an alkaline solution, e.g. a 15-35% by weight solution of sodium or potassium hydroxide which may contain a wetting agent, freeing it from alkaline solution, optionally drying, impregnating it with an aqueous solution or dispersion containing one or more aminoplast-forming substances and one or more acid curing catalysts, drying it, e.g. at temperatures below 130‹C, to a moisture content of 3-11% by weight, and allowing it to react with the aminoplastforming substance at a temperature of up to 50‹C without appreciable loss of moisture, e.g. for 5-30 hours. The aminoplast forming substance may be a compound having the formula in which R1 and RSP2/SP are hydrogen atoms or low molecular weight alkyl groups, RSP3/SP and RSP4/SP are radicals having the general formula | RSP5/SP - C - RSP6/SP which are joined together | | | directly or via RSP8/SP-C-RSP7/SP, -O- or -N-RSP9/SP | or (when RSP1/SP and RSP2/SP both denote low molecular weight alkyl groups) may also denote hydrogen atoms, low molecular weight alkyl groups or low molecular weight alkoxymethyl groups, RSP5/SP, RSP7/SP, RSP10/SP and RSP11/SP are hydrogen atoms or low molecular weight alkyl groups, RSP6/SP and RSP8/SP are hydrogen atoms, hydroxyl groups, low molecular weight alkyl groups or low molecular weight alkoxy groups, RSP9/SP is a hydrogen atom, a low molecular weight alkyl group or a low molecular weight hydroxyalkyl group, RSP12/SP and RSP13/SP are hydrogen atoms, low molecular weight alkyl groups or low molecular weight alkoxymethyl groups, A is a divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having 2-8 carbon atoms and Z is O or 1. The catalyst is preferably a mixture of 1 part by weight of one or more strong or medium strength acids having a dissociation constant of at least 10SP-4/SP which are not volatile at up to 130‹C, e.g. sulphuric, phosphoric, oxalic, glycollic, maleic, monochloracetic, trichloroacetic, tartaric or citric acid, and 0.2-10 parts by weight of one or more latently acid salts, e.g. ammonium chloride, sulphate, phosphate or nitrate, dimonoethanolamine hydrogen phosphate, ethanolamine hydrochloride, 2- methyl-2-aminopropanol hydrochloride, magnesium, aluminium or zinc chloride, zinc nitrate or zirconium oxychloride. The impregnation liquor may also contain wetting agents, e.g. salts of alkyl naphthalene sulphonic acids, alkali metal salts of sulphonateddioctyl succinate and adducts of alkylene oxides to fatty alcohols, alkyl phenols and fatty amines, water-repelling agents, e.g. paraffin wax emulsions containing aluminium or zirconium or silicon or perfluorinated aliphatic compounds, plasticisers, e.g. ethenoxylation products of high molecular weight fatty acids, fatty alcohols or fatty acid amides, high molecular weight polyglycol ethers and esters thereof, high molecular weight fatty acids, fatty alcohol sulphonates, stearyl-N, N-ethylenurea and stearylamido methyl pyridinium chloride, finishes, e.g. cellulose ethers or esters, alginates, polyethylene, polyamides, ethenoxylated polyamides, polyvinyl ethers, polyvinyl alcohols, polyacrylic or methacrylic acid or esters or amides thereof, polyvinyl propionate, polyvinylpyrrolidone, or copolymers of vinyl chloride and acrylic esters, of butadiene and styrene or acrylonitrile, of α-dichloroethylene, #- chloroalkylacrylic esters or vinyl ethyl ether and acrylamide or the amides of crotonic or maleic acid or of N-methylol acrylamide or methacrylamide and other polymerisable compounds, and optical brightening agents.
