The invention comprises hydroxocobalamine derivatives of formula A-CO-O-Co-R where A-CO- is derived from an iodo-aryl-aliphatic amino acid A-COOH, and -O-Co-R is derived from hydroxocobalamine HO-Co-R. In an example 3,5-di-iodo-tyrosine is reacted with hydroxocobalamine to obtain a derivative of the invention. Derivatives as above are used medicinally with pharmaceutically acceptable carriers as injectable or drinkable solutions, tablets, pills, suppositories and ointments, to treat anaemia, to stimulate the central nervous system, to stimulate basal metabolism and to lower cholesterolaemia. In examples, hydroxocobalamine 3,5-di-iodo-tyrosinate is dissolved in an aqueous buffer solution and is mixed with wheat starch, potato starch and magnesium stearate to form tablets.
