1,082,778. Endless conveyers; packaging- machines. FORGROVE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. May 12, 1966 [July 26,1965], No. 31798/65. Headings B8A and B8C. Spaced articles 15 delivered from a wrapping machine (not shown) to a continuously moving endless belt 8 are discharged over a reciprocating end pulley 9 thereof on to an intermittently moving conveyer belt 10 to form spaced batches of articles thereon for feeding to a vacuumizing machine (11). The conveyer 10 is stationary during the return or discharge stroke of the end roller 9, the rate of which relative to the speed of the belt 8 is arranged to decrease the spacing between the articles in each batch. The wrapping machine partially seals packs of meat in packages 15. The packages then travel along a plurality of parallel spaced endless conveyers 1 to a position A where a cam-actuated pusher 2, 3 lifts the package clear of the conveyers 1. A lug 4 on an intermittently driven chain then moves the packages to a resealing station B, a turn-over station C and then to the continuously moving conveyer 8. The intermittently moving conveyer 10 feeds each batch of packages to beneath a lid (12) in the vacuumizing machine (11) where air is withdrawn and the open edge (17) of the package sealed between sealing bars (13), (14).
