[Also in Division F2] A dust-sealed tubular mechanism for transferring material such as coal comprises upper and lower sleeves 5, 8 which can be raised and lowered respectively to connect a bunker 4 with a travelling hopper 3 and which can be brought together again after the hopper 3 has been filled, the lower sleeve 8 being raised before the upper sleeve 5 is lowered. As shown, the sleeves 5, 8 have upper flanges 7, 10 respectively which carry sets of three equi-angularly spaced cams 9, 10 which co-operate with upper and lower sets of rollers 13, 14 on a ring 12, the latter having rollers 16 which engage a flange 15 on the neck 27 of the hopper 3 and being rotatable by a worm 19. The latter, which can be driven by a geared motor unit, not shown, or by hand, co-operates with a worm wheel segment 18 attached to the outer sleeve 8. Pins 20, 22, secured respectively to the hopper 3 and the outer sleeve engage slots 21, 23 respectively in the sleeves and ensure their translatory movement. The lower sleeve 8 is provided with an extension sleeve 24 which is vertically adjustable by means of nuts and bolts 30. Dust seals 26, 29 are carried respectively by the hopper neck 27 and the sleeve 8.
