1,208,493. Cross-linked polyimide resin articles. SOC. RHODIACETA. 25 Jan., 1968 [26 Jan., 1967], No. 4045/68. Addition to 1,066,390. Heading C3P. A moulded article is made of a cross-linked polyimide by introducing in a molten state into a mould at least one N,NSP1/SP-bis-imide of an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid of formula where R 1 is a divalent group containing at least 2 C atoms and R 2 is a divalent group containing at least one carbon to carbon double bond, adding to the bis-imide prior to its introduction into a mould a polymerization retarder and polymerizing the bis-imide in the mould, in the absence of a catalyst, by maintaining the contents of the mould at 80-400‹ C. for sufficient time to produce the article. In examples the mixtures polymerized were: (1) N,NSP1/SP - 4,4SP1/SP - diphenylether - bismaleimide with hydroquinone; (2)-(6) the bis-maleimide of (1) with methylene-bis-2,2SP1/SP- (6 - tert. - butyl - p - cresol), thio - bis - 2,2SP1/SP- (6 - tert. - butyl - p - cresol), phenyl - α - naphthylamine, N - isopropyl - NSP1/SP - phenyl - p - phenylene - diamine and N,NSP1/SP - dioctyl - p - phenylene.- diamine respectively; (7) N,NSP1/SP- 4,4SP1/SP - diphenylmethane - bis - maleimide with hydroquinone; (8) N,NSP1/SP - 1,3 - phenylene - bismaleimide; and (9) as (1) with the addition of silica.
