[Also in Division D1] A tubular rubbing apron for use in textile machinery comprises a plurality of layers bonded together by vulcanization, the layers consisting of a first sheet of rubber composition 9, a sheet of cord fabric 10, a second sheet of rubber composition 12, a reinforcing layer in the form of a helical winding of cord 13, and a final third sheet of rubber composition. The layers are wound around a tubular mandrel with the ends of the various sheets being butt-jointed or being lap-jointed with a narrow overlap. The external surface of the vulcanized assembly is trimmed to the required thickness. The cords of the fabric layer are disposed parallel to the axis of the mandrel. Studs are fitted to the free ends of the apron for engagement with recesses in the draft rollers of the textile machinery. Grooves 5 may be cut in the layer 14.
