[Also in Divisions C4 and G2] Compounds of Formula (VII) wherein R is an allyl, aryl, aralkyl or optionally substituted C 1-12 alkyl group, ZSP1/SP completes a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic nucleus, X is an anion and n is 0 or 1, are prepared by the hydrolysis of compounds of Formula (VIII) wherein RSP1/SP and RSP2/SP are each optionally substituted C 1-12 alkyl or C 4-6 cycloalkyl groups. Specified heterocyclic nuclei are oxazoles, thiazoles and selenazoles and their benzo- and naphtho-homologues, 1- and 2-quinolines, 1-isoquinolines, 2-pyridines and 3,3-dialkylindolenines; these nuclei may be substituted e.g. by a halogen, alkyl, phenyl, 2-thienyl, hydroxy, alkoxy or methylenedioxy group. In Example 3, a compound of formula is prepared by hydrolysing a compound of formula using hydrochloric acid; in Example 4, the corresponding 3-phenyl compound (Fig. 4, not shown) is prepared similarly.
