1,133,493. Recovering combustible gas. OSTERREICHISCHE MINERALOLVERWALTUNG A.G. 28 Feb., 1966 [18 March. 1965], No. 8777/66. Heading C5E. Waste gases at low super-atmospheric pressure containing combustible components, e.g. waste gases from oil refineries, are sucked from a waste gas pipe 1 with a suction pressure having a minimum value equal to atmospheric pressure. The suction pressure is preferably maintained 40 to 200 mm. water column above atmospheric. Dangerous leakage of air into the pipe 1 is therefore avoided. A compressor 4 has a by-pass 8 controlled by a pressuresensitive unit 10 connected to atmosphere at 12 and to the suction side 3 of the compressor at 11, and the motor M for the compressor is controlled by switches 15, 16, 18 likewise responsive to the suction pressure. A gauge pressure equal to the water column a is maintained in the pipe 1. The unit 10 may alternatively control the speed of the motor M (Fig. 2) or the capacity of the compressor (Fig. 3), (both Figures not shown).
