Structures, e.g. honeycombs, which may be used for cores of stable and light connection plates may be made by arranging a plurality of synthetic plastics tubes in layers and applying to the tubes by a means which swells and dissolves the plastics and then drying the tubes under the pressure produced by the expansion. Preferably, the layered tubes are immersed in a liquid, e.g. so as to dissolve only the surface, superfluous liquid being removed before drying. The tubes may be compressed before drying to give the tubes a hexagonal section.
