The novel compounds thiocornine I (including salts and esters thereof) and thiamamidine phosphoric cysteine (exists as an open ring form IIa and as a cyclic form IIb) are obtained by hydrolysing natural protein containing materials; activated carbon is subsequently utilized whereby the thiamidine phosphoric cysteine is adsorbed thereon and the thiocornine remains in solution. Partial hydrolysis of scordinine A or B, as exemplified using 20% sulphuric acid or 15% hydrochloric acid, affords thiamacomine III which is also a novel compound. Pharmaceutical preparations suitable in the treatment of prophylaxis, for the removal of fats from the liver, for strengthening livers and also capable of acting as co-factor in a vitaminlike manner contain as active ingredient compound I or IIa (or IIb); administration may be orally, perlingually, parenterally, transcutaneously or subcutaneously.
