A SYSTEM FOR TRANSPORTING PASSENGERS AND/OR FREIGHT, THE SYSTEM COMPRISING TRANSPORTATION UNITS OF FINITE LENGTH MOVING ON A WAY

In a railway system, goods and passengers are transferred, between express trains and feeder trains, while both are in motion, and the feeder trains are loaded or discharged at ordinary stations. Various elaborations of rail networks (Figs. 1-5, not shown) of increasing complexity are described in connection with moving transfer to yet faster non-stop trains. The transfer is effected by the interchange of receptacles 30-33, containing goods or passengers. In Fig. 6, semi-cylindrical receptacles 30, 31 have toothed rims 38, 36 enabling them to be swung about a vertical axis to effect interchange. In Fig. 7, the receptacles 32, 33 are moved across removable bridge elements 34 on wheels or rollers. The trains may be coupled together, during interchange of receptacles, by gripping magnets. In one form (Fig. 8, not shown) they may be steadied by an elevated guide rail 17. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,166,109.
