1324118 Controlling car body roll SUMITOMO METAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 16 Oct 1970 [18 Oct 1969] 49271/70 Heading B7L Means for controlling the angle of roll of a car body of a piece of rolling stock when travelling on a curved track by adjusting the level of air dampers 1, 1SP1/SP disposed one on either side of the car body comprises electromagnetic supply valves 2SP1/SP, 2SP2/SP, 2 3 provided in parallel between air damper 1 and reservoir 6, and similar supply valves 2SP1/SP 1 , 2SP1/SP 2 2SP1/SP 3 between damper 1SP1/SP and the reservior, and electromagnetic air exhaust valves 3 1 3 2 3 3 provided between the damper 1 and the atmosphere, and similar valves 3SP1/SP 1 , 3SP1/SP 2 , 3SP1/SP 3 between damper 1SP1/SP and the atmosphere; depending on the magnitude of the component of lateral acceleration parallel to the car body floor "sets" of supply and exhuast valves i.e. 2 1 and 3SP1/SP 1 or 3 1 and 2SP1/SP 1 , 2SP2/SP and 3SP1/SP 2 or 3 2 and 2SP1/SP 2 , and 2 3 and 3SP1/SP 3 or 3 3 and 2SP1/SP 3 may succesively be brought into operation in stages in response to progressive increase or decrease in the damper load. In an example having 4 stages the first stage operates when the component of lateral acceleration parallel with the car body floor of 0À005 to 0À015 g, the second at 0À01 to 0À03g, the third at 0À015 to 0À03 g and the fourth at 0À02 to 0À06 g. Valves controlled by air pressure may be used instead of electro magnetically controlled valves.
