Condensing cooling tower - with single large underground steam duct - for large turbines

A natural draught large capacity cooling tower with peripheral air inlet at the bottom and air outlet at the top end, the steam being directly condensed in smooth or ribbed tubes within the tower, is suppleid with steam from the steam source, e.g. a turbine, through a single supply duct, large in cross-section compared to those hitherto constructed, which is laid beneath the cooling tower floor and is wide in relation to its height. Specif., the duct may be of concrete with a steel liner. The plant is suitable for large steam throughputs, 300-1500 tons/hr., i.e. in association with turbines up to 800 MW rating.
