Concentrating sugar liquor - with improved steam utilisation during varying boiler demand

Method of concentrating thin juice in the sugar industry, using multistage evaporation employing steam in the first stage only, a hot process vapour for the other stages, with branching of a proportion of the vapours to preheaters and a boiler unit, is carried out by using a sufficient steam supply to meet the maximum boiler demand (this demand fluctuates considerably) and the continuous (non-fluctuating) preheater demand; when the boiler demand decreases, the excess vapour is diverted to a heat exchanger, where it heats air for supplying to a pulp drier with adjustable burner.
