1,254,212. Producing levorin and levoristatin. LENINGRADSKY NAUCHNO ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT ANTIBIOTIKOV. 21 Jan., 1970 [26 Feb., 1969], No. 10350/69. Heading C2A. The antifungal antibiotics levorin and levoristatin are produced by cultivating strain no. 879 of Actinomyces levoris Kras, in a nutrient medium containing assimilable sources of carbon and nitrogen under submerged aerobic conditions. The cultivation is preferably effected at pH 6À8-7À0 (prior to inoculation) and 27‹Œ1‹ C. Suitable nutrients are glucose, starch, dextrin, maltose, lactose and hydrol, and asparagine, casein hydrolysate, soybean or corn meal, yeast autolysate and beef extract. Cachalot oil may be added as an antifoam agent. The levorin and levoristatin are produced together and may be separated and the levorin isolated as described in Specification 1,070,799.
